The answer is no on both accounts. Apparently, movies that make a reappearance in theaters after 14 years are primed to make a killing. I say this because The Lion King took first at the box office, raking in another $30 million for the Disney classic almost 15 years later. Taking second position was Contagion, which was followed by Drive‘s $11.3 million dollar debut in third. The Help continued to collect money from audiences in fourth place, while the Straw Dogs remake came in at number 5. I Don’t Know How She Does It topped the lower 5, followed by The Debt, Warrior, Planet of the Apes, and then Colombiana in tenth.

Wow, clearly my faith in Drive was misplaced seeing as it came in third rather than first, which also translated over to How She Does It. Seriously, I’m totally off my game lately. Who would have thought that The Lion King would take number 1 since it’s release back in 1994 (wow that makes me feel old)? It was also interesting to see that all the movies that had been at the box office previously, almost fell in the exact same order they had the weekend before. Weird. Anyway, onto this coming Friday’s newcomers. There are quite a few new movies hitting the theaters this Friday, and five notable ones: Killer Elite, Moneyball, Puncture, Abduction, and Dolphin Tale. I’m starting to lose faith in my premonitions here, but here goes nothing: 1) Abduction (because of Taylor Lautner) 2) Moneyball 3) The Lion King 4) Puncture 5) Killer Elite.

Miss out on the movies last weekend? Check out our [review] of Drive to see if it’s worth your while. Seeing The Lion King make it into theaters again kind of brings a whole new dimension to the reboot, the rerelease. It worked for Star Wars, why not for other series? It seems this may be a new trend seeing as Ghostbusters is hitting theaters again this October for a limited time. So, is this a new thing? And is it worth your time? Let us know, and stay warm moviegoers.
