The Trailer(s): Battlefield 3 vs. Modern Warfare 3

Two blockbuster titles go head-to-head.

The next iteration of the war of the modern first person shooter is here, and Battlefield 3 fires the first round tomorrow. However, Modern Warfare 3 isn’t too far behind, releasing in two weeks. Both games have strong points, but each manages to shine in its own light, with hardcore adopters defending them to the end. But we’re not here to talk about the games, we’re here to show you the interesting differences between the two launch trailers of these two heavy titles. First, here’s Battlefield 3‘s launch trailer.

Now, here’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3‘s trailer.

Okay, so can you spot the difference? Battlefield focused purely on how the game looks and feels, while Modern Warfare went for the story, which is not really what brings people to Call of Duty. Battlefield 3 does look impressive as many of the shots from the game in the commercial do blend well with the real shots used. However, from what early reviews have said, the campaign isn’t that impressive. After Modern Warfare 2, I sort of expect the same to be said about MW3 when it comes to story.
