If it wasn’t for the 2, this might not be a sequel.
When a list of movies come to mind that deserve sequels, I would honestly not put Journey to the Center of the Earth, the most recent version, as one of them. Despite what I think, Hollywood clearly has different intentions, seeing as the sequel is on the way, but you might not recognize it from the title: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. This time around Josh Hutcherson is accompanied by Dwayne Johnson (rather than Brandon Fraser) and gets some female companionship in the form of Vanessa Hudgens. They’re not going into the Earth this time, but rather to, you guessed it, a mysterious island from another one of Jules Verne’s works. Check out the craziness.
So yeah, I might still be sticking with the whole “not worthy of a sequel idea”, but that might mostly stem from some of the ridiculous things, like Johnson’s pec action. I could do without that. Still, the movie may be better than the original. Find out for yourself February 10 in 3D.
