Trailers We Want to See

We need something to hold us over.

“2012 is going to be a big year for movies.” Well, we say that every year, but this could be the big one. I guess we say that too. We already know what’s slated for the summer of Moviegeddon 2012: The Hunger Games, The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, Men In Black 3, Battleship, Prometheus, that pair of Snow White films, and more. But, there are a few other solid movies that are supposedly heading to theaters this year that we have yet to see any actual footage of. So here is a list of a few movie trailers we’d like to see.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

A US President fighting vampires? Yes, we want to see that. Based on the novel by the same title, this movie has got Abraham Lincoln, vampires, and politics. Take that Underworld series. Admittedly, the entertainment industry has been drowning in vampires and werewolves for the past five years or so (Twilight anyone?), but it’s still nice to see something a little different, especially if it’s fun and not so “I love a vampire and a werewolf” or “I’m a vampire and I need to stop a war between vampires and werewolves”. Oh wait, those are kind of the same story aren’t they? I want to see this movie because Lincoln is one of my favorite presidents, and I always imagined that a tall man like himself should spend his nights kicking ass.

So where’s the trailer? Slated for a release of June 22, yet they still haven’t shown us a trailer. There has been some behind the scenes stuff, but nothing of Lincoln in action. Fox, get your act together.

Total Recall

Sure, it’s a reboot, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to see it. Colin Farrell stepping in for the Govenator could make the experience all the better (and understandable). It’s only been 22 years since the original was released (which could indicated that Hollywood is moving into the 90s with reboots now), and it was a cult classic, and generally I have a rule about messing with those. Still, it’s a scifi action film that doesn’t star Arnold Schwarzenegger so it could be decent.

So where’s the trailer? The release date is almost six months away and all we have are a few publicity shots. Sony, you better get on this.

The Bourne Legacy

In other action news, the Bourne series is back this year, but without Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne. This time around, Jeremy Renner takes the role of Alex Cross, who takes the place of Jason Bourne. How exactly? Well, details have been scarce. Does he have amnesia too? Was he Treadstone? Most likely he was a Treadstone/Black Briar agent, but other than that your guess is as good as mine. The cast for this is also interesting, with Ed Norton, Rachel Weisz, and apparently Joan Allen returning as Pam Landy (according to [IMDB]). This is another chance for Renner to show off his action chops, though Ghost Protocol definitely showed us that he can play ball.

So where’s the trailer? No clue. The IMDB page is pretty sparse with any sort of details and this still to the right is the only thing we’ve seen of the film, which is scheduled to be released in August opposite Total Recall.

Skyfall

James Bond’s 23rd mission, and 50th anniversary are upon us this November, and when it comes to international espionage, not many can challenge 007. This time around he’s traveling the globe and potentially dealing with some falling space junk. The details have been a little vague but we know that whatever is going on will dig up something from M’s past, and test James’ loyalty to her. This is intriguing because it’s a bit different from more traditional Bond films where it’s go here, kill him, grab that, get the girl, save the world. Now there’s some history, some attachment, and Daniel Craig in a pool. I’m looking forward to another Bond film, especially if it can be on par with Casino Royale.

So where’s the trailer? Production on Skyfall only started two months ago, so it would make sense that there isn’t too much to play with to make a trailer, but here’s hoping that we’ll see one before too long. If we have to wait, maybe put it in front of TDKR? Maybe?

Dredd

Why does this movie exist? I’m not sure. Was anyone really a fan of the original Judge Dredd movie or games? Raise your hands if you were…okay that settles it. That is probably why Hollywood picked up this reboot, because they figured they could transform it into something cool, and with a guy like Karl Urban behind the mask you can’t get much cooler. Dredd running around the streets of some futuristic city, acting as judge, jury, and executioner (because he has the authority to) while cleaning up the streets, doesn’t sound like a completely terrible plot. You know, if you ignore that this sounds a bit like Robocop without the robotic components.

So where’s the trailer? This movie has been in production for quite awhile, and since Star Trek 2 has started production and Urban is attached to that, you’d think this movie would be all but ready for release. So why is it coming out in September? And what’s the hold up on footage? We’ve only seen two pictures.

Looper

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a young Bruce Willis who is a time traveling assassin tasked with killing his older self? Where do I buy my ticket? JGL’s popularity has been on the rise in the past few years and Bruce Willis never goes out of style, and neither does time travel. This movie has got all the right elements if you ask me (I’m assuming there’s some sort of love interest in the form of Emily Blunt), so why is it that almost no one has heard of it? On top of that question, why is this one of the only pictures we’ve seen from it?

So where’s the trailer? Probably in the future, seeing as this movie is meant to fit in late September of this year. But considering how “under wraps” this movie seems to be, I wouldn’t bet on seeing a trailer anytime soon.

Honorable Mention: Star Trek 2

Production just started on this one last month and it won’t be released until next year. But I can still dream of a teaser, right J.J. Abrams?

What other movies are you looking forward to seeing this year?
