This one goes out to all the single geeks.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Sure, there are plenty out there celebrating with someone else, others calling the holiday sham, and still others who probably just go about it like an ordinary day. Either way, what better way to not give up hope of ever finding someone than to look at completely fictitious examples of geeks that have succeeded in that endeavor. Thus, we present 5 geeks that got the girl. These aren’t the top 5, and they are in no particular order, but these are 5 that do demonstrate that it’s possible. Just forget the fact that this is Hollywood and believe.
Sam Witwicky
Yeah, that kid with weird last name and great-grandfather who sailed the Arctic. This guy played with Transformers and he got Megan Fox and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Tell me how many other guys who played with Transformers in high school that got girls like that. You can’t name any? Well, that doesn’t mean much since these were real Transformers. If a guy who shots “NO” more than any other word in the English dictionary can get not only one, but two women, then I think it’s safe to say that you have a chance.
David Lightman
You young kids out there might not recognize Matthew Broderick as David Lightman from WarGames, but he was one of the earliest computer geeks. In the 80s arcades were all the rage, and the home computer was just becoming a thing. While most computer hackers spent their days in dark rooms and looking like they just got out of bed, David here was changing grades for Ally Sheedy…and starting a global thermonuclear war (not innuendo). I hear one of the best ways to start a relationship is to avert WWIII.
Kirk Kettner
Here’s an excellent example of how the whole “league” system can get in your head. Kirk here is a bit of a geek. While in the film She’s Out of My League he doesn’t display much of his geeky nature, his awkwardness towards the opposite sex definitely resembles that of other geeks and nerds that have come before him. Still, despite his belief, and that of his friends, that he’s a 5, he manages to impress Alice Eve, even in the face of her fighter pilot ex. The Force is strong with this one. If you remember the whole league system is bogus then there’s hope for you yet.
Peter Parker
Having superpowers doesn’t mean you’re suddenly the coolest guy ever, but it may give you some extra confidence to talk to a girl. Still, you don’t need those powers as Spider-Man’s alter ego Peter Parker proved. Gwen Stacy (played by the awesome Emma Stone in the new Spider-Man movie) fell for Pete not because of his wall crawling, but for his intelligence. That’s right, he was a geek, and she liked that. Peter has always remained one of the more relatable characters in Marvel comics because he was the geek. A geek that got Gwen, and eventually Mary Jane.
Chuck Bartowski
And then there’s my personal favorite, Chuck Bartowski. From zero to hero, Chuck was the lowly Nerd Herd employee until one day everything changed. I’m not saying that you need to rush out and get a secret government database downloaded into your brain, that would be silly, but in the end, while the Intersect allowed Chuck and Sarah to find each other, they didn’t need the Intersect to stay together. I know, sappy, but Chuck represents one of the ultimate nerd/geek fantasies: be a spy, save the world, get the girl. For now, just focus on the last part.
There you have it. Five geeks that have demonstrated that it is possible to get the girl, even while wearing your geek heart on your sleeve. Don’t give up who you are for someone else, find someone who will embrace you as you are. I think that’s the point I’m trying to get across here. I think Skizzle Fresh would back me up on this one.
Enjoy your holiday.
