Check out the new Doctor Who mini-episode.
The running of the torch during the Olympic ceremony is a very important component to the entire event. The flame symbolizes Prometheus’ gift to humanity after he stole fire from the gods, and it symbolizes hope and the cumulative spirit of humanity. Which of courses makes it a target for all types of alien species who want to crush the human spirit, and that’s where the Doctor comes in.
As part of the Script to Screen competition, children across the UK ages 9-11 were tasked to write a short story featuring the Doctor and the Olympics. The mini-episode you just saw won that competition, and the winning kids got to tour the sets of Doctor Who and meet with the Amy and the Time Lord. Not too bad for a bunch of elementary school kids right? Regardless, it’s a short and sweet fix of Doctor Who while we wait for this fall.
Here’s hoping Britain isn’t let kids write script for the forthcoming James Bond themed Olympic short. That would be weird.
