But there is still Stargate related news, so that’s good.
In 10 days the 15th anniversary of Stargate SG-1‘s pilot episode airing will be upon us, but that’s not what we’re here to talk about. Remember back when we told you there was going to be a Stargate related Comic Con reveal? Yeah, apparently that was a lie. Not on purpose, it just turns out MGM or any other Stargate related people had nothing to say about the franchise. So is this how Stargate dies? Not to thunderous applause, or raging fans, but in utter silence?
No. Despite the lack of news at Comic Con, there was news previously about original Stargate co-writer Dean Devlin considering going back to the film series to finish up the trilogy he originally intended. He’s hoping to fill the hole left by the original film, and possibly a hole left by the fact that there has been no new Stargate for over a year now. However, since he and his partner in crime, Roland Emmerich, are currently try to get a sequel to Independence Day, that still may not happen any time soon.
Still, it’s good to see that Devlin is still interested, and that there may yet be some life in this franchise that we haven’t seen yet. As to what sort of direction that an 18 year-old sequel could take, your guess is as good as mine since everything has been complicated by the TV series. My questions are: are James Spader and Kurt Russell up to it? Where will this fit in with the TV series? And why the hell do we need a sequel to Independence Day?
In news related to Stargate actors, Christopher Judge (Teal’c) has said that he’s working on a new scifi series. Back in 2010, he and Michael Shanks were working on a pilot for a series together called Rage of Angels, but we haven’t seen anything from that yet, could this be that show? Judge, who will be seen in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, is reluctant to give up details beyond the fact that he thinks scifi fans (including Gaters) will be excited for this new series.
So, it’s not precisely the news you might have been hoping for, but it’s still news. Oh yeah, and Ben Browder will be in the third episode of Doctor Who‘s series 7. Keep your eyes open for that one.
