[UPDATED] Google Talk Was Down, Now Twitter, What’s Next?

Could Facebook or Tumblr be next on this social shutdown?

[UPDATE] Twitter is no longer down. Have fun with your 140 character messages.

Let me start by saying we’re not trying to cause panic or anything, just stating some observations, and we’ll keep you updated.

Earlier this morning Google’s Talk service was out of commission. Users across the world couldn’t log into the instant messaging service or they were getting weird error messages. After a few hours the problem appeared to be resolved and everything was back to normal. Then Twitter went down. And we’re not just talking about a few people not being able to send a tweet here or there, we’re talking the full scale shutdown of Twitter.

Coincidence? Seeing as I’ve been promoted to Internet Detective I no longer believe in coincidence. For now it does appear to be the case, but the fact that Google then Twitter were experiencing outages mere hours apart from each other is suspicious. Could another social service be shut down? Perhaps Facebook, Tumblr, or Pinterest? For now we play the waiting game, but if something does come up I’m sure you’ll know just as soon as we do.
