We Have A Whedon: Joss Signs On For Avengers 2

And there was much rejoicing.

The man that was pretty much responsible for the entirety of The Avengers success has been confirmed to be back for a second time with it’s sequel. Cue applause. Disney announced that Joss Whedon would be returning for The Avengers 2 during a conference call with investors yesterday afternoon, as you can imagine that announcement probably got them to sign on. Whedon will both write and direct as he did before, but that’s not even the biggest news out of this conference call. Disney also said that Whedon would be involved with a new Marvel television series for ABC that fits somewhere into The Avengers universe, but don’t get your hopes up for an Avengers TV show.

If you’re going to have anyone be involved in making a TV show these days, you want the man who has one of the biggest cult presences in TV history. Whedon has created cult classics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, and if that doesn’t prove he knows what he’s doing you can go watch The Avengers again. Or you could ask any one of his fans who will most likely defend him to the death.

For me, it’s great to see directors like Whedon and Edgar Wright getting into the Marvel universe. They have a certain humor and sense of the genre that just makes it come alive. That being said, this will be the first movie sequel Whedon will be making, so the pressure is on for it to be better than the first. How could he possibly top shawarma?
