As you may have gathered, I’m the science correspondent around here. I’m the overmind of the machine intelligences. In real life I work on ways to cool detectors to within a tenth of a degree above absolute zero for a balloon borne NASA cosmology mission called PIPER. And I bake awesome vegan chocolate cake. My favorite food is avocado and cucumber maki. My favorite color is 2.7 K blackbody emission. I know all about the chemical process that makes umeboshi eat through an aluminum lunch box. I have lunchtime conversations about quantum entanglement in mitochondria. I think apoptosis sounds like the name of a D&D villain.

My ground state is wide-eyed enthusiasm. Current obsessions include, but are not limited to: planetary exploration, radio astronomy, polyhedral dice, cartoon characters from Japan, chiptunes, and posthumanism. I can quote most of Scott Pilgrim and I don’t believe in ghosts, but ghost stories keep me up at night. Someday I hope to be able to upload my memories into a computer, and I’m not afraid of the robot uprising. Besides writing here, I sometimes write on my own blog (qquern.wordpress.com), but usually I’m writing material for my D&D and GURPS campaigns. One time I beat the entire Elite Four with a lone Dragonite.

And I am the greatest hero the world has ever known.

I’m a life-long gamer, unapologetic Microsoft fanboy, and gadget lover who isn’t afraid to look like an idiot. I’ll be writing about whatever catches my eye in the tech world, and I’ll happily give my opinion on just about anything. Especially when other people are wrong. I’ll try to be nice, but no guarantees.

So a little about me. I am a pretty big geek (see picture to the left) and this is not my job. I’m currently a full-time graduate student in an Astrophysics PhD program at RIT which keeps me decently busy, but I still find time to run and post here at 1amgeek as well as create some digital art which can be found [here]. I’m always looking for collaborators and competitors. I own every current gen system, PS2, Sega Genesis, Gameboy Color, DS Lite, 3DS and I have a PS Vita on the way. I’m an avid cinephile so you’ll probably find lots of opinions about movies here as I have an extensive library. I enjoy watching and discussing TV shows and a few of my faves are Chuck, Stargate Universe, How I Met Your Mother, Castle, Bones, Psych, and the list goes on. I enjoy lots of styles of music, but no country please.

I suppose I’m the life/style correspondent, which means I tangentially am on 1amgeek solely to take the nuanced wonkiness generally dedicated to media and technology on the blog and apply it to social interactions and relationship development. Luckily, that means I do all the in-field testing (read: trying crazy things when approaching women), so you and I both win: I have great stories, you get the lessons from them.

To support my habits, I currently manage technical operations and student personnel of the student centers at Williams College to pay the bills. My passion lies in political campaigning (read: creating relationships out of thin air), and I’m do a bunch of presentations and workshops on relationship development.
